Venice1!

On a spare day that I had me and few girls from the group went to Venice!  I have to say that this city was very beautiful and romantic and I could spend days just walking through the streets!

Venice is a city in northern Italy known both for tourism and for industry, and is the capital of the region Veneto.

The city stretches across 117 small marshy islands called Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy.

The saltwater lagoon stretches along the shoreline between the mouths of the south and the north rivers.

Sometimes the Tide can reach levels which causes difficulties for the residents and the tourist. With very high tide the sea water floods sidewalks and ground floor of buildings, and boats do not pass under the bridge which causes a blocking of public transportation.

The buildings of Venice are constructed on closely spaced wood piles, which were imported from the mainland.  While wood is under water, in the absence of oxygen, wood does not decay causing wood to be the perfect idea for support for these buildings.
The wood becomes stone-like when it is petrified as a result of the constant flow of mineral-rich water around and through it.
